Wilzen Bassing, SE - Structural Engineer and Project Manager
Wilzen earned his Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from UC Berkeley with a minor in Sustainable Design. Since joining the Verdant team in 2016, he has evolved into a vital leader, now serving as a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) and project manager who brings technical rigor to the firm's most complex challenges.
His professional portfolio across the Bay Area reflects this versatility, encompassing everything from intricate wood-framed straw bale ADUs to large-scale structures such as steel moment frames for soft-story seismic retrofits and an Olympic sized horse-riding arena. This expertise is further highlighted by his work on the Lawrence Hall of Science Outdoor Nature Lab and the UC Berkeley Tropical Greenhouse, where he successfully integrated sustainable principles with creative engineering solutions.
A lifelong student at heart, Wilzen’s curiosity extends beyond the office through magic tricks, music, and DIY skills like crocheting and woodworking. Born and raised in California with Filipino roots, Wilzen brings a relational perspective to his work, blending technical skill with a warm, communicative style that makes complex structural concepts approachable for every client.
